What I have found is that I have 3 types of hunger: 1. Mouth hunger--I want to have something in my mouth, chewing and tasting it (sugar free mint-flavored gum ALWAYS satisfies this for me) 2. Sight or Smell hunger--this one can be for a certain food that I see or smell (thanks a lot TV commercials and KFC! ) (gum helps with this one, too) 3. Empty stomach hunger--and there are two types of this: a. Gimme anything (it's been 3-4 hours since I last ate) b. I feel like a..... (my body is NEEDING something; what is it?) Now re: 3a . I can pretty much predict with certainty that if it's been 3-4 hours since I last ate, I am TRULY hungry. That's the only "predictor" of true hunger that I've been able to find. If I wait til I'm woozie and literally can't see straight, then I ignored the 3a hunger, and heavens knows WHAT I'm gonna eat! So I time my meals and snacks around that time frame and I've had good results!
