I posted this on BCB in response to someone who asked what are the most important things that have helped us in our weight loss journey:
**********************
What has helped me so far is learning that:
1. I must remain focused on my journey. And when I say focused, I mean making my weight loss journey paramount in my life---over everything and everyone (of course, God is my co-pilot ).
It simply doesn't work to be "on my diet" one day, and then not "on it" the next if it's not convenient/fun/easy for me. It doesn't work to be OP during the week and off program on the weekends. It doesn't work to be OP when I'm at home and then off program when I'm at work. It doesn't work to be OP during my normal day/life and then off program when I go on vacation or out of town.
My weight loss journey is a thread that continues to be woven into my daily life regardless of where I am, who I'm with, and what I'm doing. It's not a college course that I take for a few weeks, get a grade, & then take off to the beach; I also don't take spring break from my weight loss journey. It's not a fad that I get tired of and change to something different & more exciting. And my weight loss journey does not depend on who is in my family, who I'm dating/married to, who are my friends, and what those people think about what I'm doing.
2. I'm also working on learning that, in a full life (which we all want), food is simply energy to allow me to be active and productive. It's not an end unto itself--I don't worship and give praise to food. I need to be aware of what I'm eating, to plan what and how much I'm going to eat, but that is simply just like I plan when my car needs servicing and what bills I need to pay.
Food is what powers my body--I'm thankful to have it, & I enjoy it, but I get much more pleasure from other aspects of my life. As I have neglected those other aspects of my life, such is my challenge now.
